Kylo Ren x Rey
Star Wars VII - The Force Awakens
Five years without picking up the pen ends here.
I don't even know what to say about this, except that bear with me here - I basically started over as far as drawing goes. I don't even have PS anymore, so I used paint.net instead. I don't know where my ages-old Wacom Bamboo is, or even if it still works, so I used my Microsoft Surface Pro with pen. Worked surprisingly well, except BOY DO I NEED A PRESSURE SENSITIVITY FUNCTION. And PS with all the neat tools and texturing functions.
By the time I was half-way done, I just wanted to start over with something new, as I started seeing flaws everywhere, but then just decided no - I just need to take this hit, finish one piece, however painful the process (could have been worse tbh). Next one will be better, and it will come faster, easier, more enjoyable. Right? Sometimes you just have to say to a piece that okay, this is it, this is as good as it's gonna get this time, drop it and move on.
Inspiration to draw again came with my newest fangirl haze after the new Star Wars and especially our dashing villain Kylo Ren. I goshdarn nearly dropped my eyeballs when he took that helmet off, as I was one of the lucky people who had never even heard of Adam Driver before. Into the fandom I dove - and one particular fic especially inspired me: Interstellar Transmissions by ricca_riot and LovelyThings (Read it archiveofourown.org/works/5496…
) started as a kink meme prompt without much plot, and then went absolutely wild with 55 chapters of actual, exceptionally well built&written story. So, I'm dedicating this feeble attempt at fanart to these lovely authors!
Referenced after Adam Driver photoshoot, which I later found out also inspired some official early concept art, hmmmmmm....
